Renaming Items...

Sooo along with the ability to rename items, I decided to test a farfetched idea...

Fun jokes aside, I think it's safe to assume that this needs to be prevented. Bad links = bad time, and players would be blamed for using said weapon even though they didn't rename it. I think we'd be better off removing the renaming feature of a weapon, or at least prevent them from being mentioned in chat.

I honestly think you are the only person to have ever realised that. I do like renaming my weapons to things like "boing" or "pointy stick" in game for fun but seeing this now I guess it can cause problems, especially if people start using it to start scamming or general advertising.

I didn't even know that this was possible, but I agree with that this should be removed or that the names don't get mentioned in the chat. You could use swearing words or like you said a bad site. I prefer the option that the name of the weapon won't get mentioned in the chat, because there are some people that find it fun to change it to a decent name. +1 for this suggestion!

Well I do agree with your suggestion, but we can also block links and allow normal things. Like ''[name] was slain by [name] using iCheeetah'' (couldn't think of something else). Also I haven't noticed this since I play on CubeCraft, so I think you're the first one.

What you say is a valid option, but would be a pain to actually bring to life as a plugin. Aside from that, it's not really worth their time to make an entire new filter in case of things like these which pretty much never happen.
The easiest solution would be removing the (pretty much useless) renaming feature that pops up in chat too. Even if there was a filter, people would just bypass it somehow.

;)I think this is a good idea. I never thought about that player could use this feature to say bad words in chat. But like you said @Gainfullterror the easiest solution is to remove the feature to rename items/weapons. And just add more fun customed named weapon on the maps instead. :)

Can't they simply apply the chat filter that they already have to the weapon names? If it's possible to bypass that they wouldn't even need the renamed weapon anyway.
Sounds pretty simple so implement as a spigot plugin. Listen to the InventoryClickEvent, then if the inventory is an anvil, get the items display name and run it through the chat filter. If it doesn't pass the filter reset the name to the default.
I think it's a fun feature, I have never seen anyone advertising through this, but I have seen people using swear words that are blocked in chat. Applying the chat filter would be the best solution in my opinion.

I personally think that having it said in chat is a good thing like this

Renaming your items with inappropriate names does fall under inappropriate names/skins/capes and you can report them

I have literally been playing for around 3,5 years and never really realised it... (u pleb) However, i don't feel like i have missed something... Just removing it seems okay to me. (This will also maybe delay the remove of blockband, jk jk jk)

To skywars it was only added in the last big update I think. The one that also added map specific items. Showing the weapon name in chat is important for those, how else are people supposed to know that someone was in fact not killed with a sword but with a Strong Spear instead. Strong spears look just the same as swords.

Renaming swords with offensive language is an essential part of making plebs salty . I would be unhappy if this was removed :(

if only it was that easy you aren't taking into account Substitute things like swears or even make other links which have different key parts like not having .com instead with .co or whatever
like saying things like gey (Not saying being gay is a bad thing at all) but gay is currently in the chat filter because people use it as an insult
