I remember that in 2015-2016 the axes on survival games were very strong.
And I always noticed the difference between axes on survival games and skywars.
loved axes at survival games

so why are axes so weak on skywars?

staff answer:
You're correct! Axes do not do as much damage as they do in Vanilla Minecraft in SkyWars. This is because when 1.9 was initially released, Axes were a lot more powerful than they used to be. Due to the fact that axes outputted such large volumes of with the initial hit, it meant that people were using an Axe to land an initial hit on a player, then swapping to a sword. It meant that as a player being leaped on you had very little chance to defend yourself as the initial hit was so strong. This meant with the initial release on 1.9, we nerfed damage of Axes based on feedback at the time.

Now time has passed since then I'm more willing to up the damage output again if other people support the increase of damage of Axes in SkyWars.

Maybe because players are now more PvP skilled and in 2015 not that much. If you played then with an axe, you got loads of kill, but now you can make fast combos with swords due to the attack speed. I don't think Minecraft has changes the attack damage.

I saw a difference in damage in those days.

It's not about the skill. Just if you did not use axes, then you do not understand.

I also always felt that axes in survival games were extremely strong. I'm not sure why, probably because the armor in survival games was often a lot worse than the armor in the current Skywars, even though the axes are about the same damage (if I am correct, both games have iron axes with sharpness 1).

The axes being attenuated is a good thing due to many people abusing axes while having extremely good gear.

i bet you one of those who said "nice gear
1.0
" after death
Nah I never really say anything after I died. Sometimes gg but most of the times I automatically leave. Though I don't really think this is relevant to this case.

We've pushed out the change to increase the damage done by axes from 50% to 75% of their normal damage.

Unfortunately we're not really axe to change the tooltip easily at the bottom of the axe that says how much damage it does, since that's something that is added client side :confused1: We have very little control of what gets displayed there.

I hope this helps to make axes better, and in the future we can analyze if we want to increase the damage done by axes further, until we reach the regular damage done. I just don't want to go too fast, since this would be quite a dramatic change if we were to go straight to full 100% to a lot of users!

Was the change only applied to SkyWars? Because I never noticed there was a change (and I don’t play SkyWars, but I do play all the other games on the network). It could also just be me tho ;p

It doesn't exactly look great but at least it's possible to see that damage has been tampered with if you set an AttributeModifier.

Code:
give @p minecraft:stone_axe{AttributeModifiers:[{AttributeName:"generic.attackDamage",Name:"generic.attackDamage",Slot:"mainhand",Amount:6,Operation:0,UUIDMost:45296,UUIDLeast:164301},{AttributeName:"generic.attackSpeed",Name:"generic.attackSpeed",Slot:"mainhand",Amount:-3.2,Operation:0,UUIDMost:35605,UUIDLeast:117283}]} 1

Would give a stone axe with normal attack speed and 7 attack damage (1 + 6). Alternatively add some helpful lore text.

It is already quite a dramatic change to everyone that does not exclusively play on cubecraft...
