It seems doing all of this will encourage/force Java players to leave and go elsewhere so therefore losing players. New players will be uninterested due to the lack of variety and choice, so I can’t see this helping Java much. I wouldn’t be surprised if in about 3-6 months Java is gone for good, as the players would’ve left and that’ll be that.
Just learned that Wynncraft 2.0 is coming out tomorrow. Time to give that another go :D

There simply is nothing left for me to do on Cubecraft. I'll keep an eye on the site, hoping they will at least try something to attract players to Cubecraft.. something unique, but yeah sadly I expect the same as you.

dude td never got an important update on the last 3 years, not even a bugfix in more than a year (check the changelog) and not even mods or staff members knew how to play it (the best one I found was an admin and carrying her was annoying), now do you really think cube cares enough about td to re-add it in the future?

Its a big chunk of their playerbase as well as a unique game

yet cubecraft never cared about us asking for lv3 giants getting fixed, ice tower / inferno potion to stop stacking, making the game faster so pvp'ers would look into td too, I ask again bcs u didnt answered do you really think that td will be re-added?

I do, 1.19 brings too many possibilities for great updates for them to not add it back

There's a lot of "hopium" in the lobbies, also, that TD might come back. But I am not optimistic, and if they ever did add it back in a few months, by then the existing user base will have moved on. I hope they at least open source the code for TD so another server can pick it up and run with it, since it's such a unique game

The network has been doing worse ever since the removal of the games. I think this was the worst mistake Cubecraft ever made, 2nd to removing among slimes. Cubecraft is the only server left that actually has a friendly, good, player base and community. Hypixel is just full of tryhards and hackers.

You can see it as a mistake, or you can see it as a facade to cover up for them wanting to kill the server off. Because unless they actually do something in these 4 months (which there's potential) then it's as good as dead. But maybe all Cubecraft needed was a research team to show them that this idea sucked, instead of them thinking it'd be a good idea.

The best analogy I've found to compare this to is this;

Imagine you're renting 20 acres of land, and you've hired a bunch of gardeners and landscapers, and grown a huge garden full of beautiful trees and flowers, you've got fountains and ponds, places for people to play games and have fun, and you've opened it up to people to come visit... But after a while, you only get 3 visitors a day.
You've run the numbers and the maths, and you know you can't keep the gardens open for too long with that few visitors.

There are 2 options;
- Close off parts of the gardens until you have a size which can be maintained by the gardeners / land you can afford.
- Shut down completely.

We're taking the first option. We've reduced Java to the core games and modes we know are the most popular and / or easiest to maintain, so that Java players still have the games we know the majority want, but are far more affordable for us to continue running and maintaining.
It wouldn't be ridiculous for us to completely shut down Java based on our current numbers, however we know we have devoted players who prefer Java to Bedrock, we know we have players who have spent good money on their favourite games. We are absolutely thankful for them, as we wouldn't even be here without them, and we don't want to upset anyone, but we are in a difficult position with Java at the moment.
We have had to trim Java down, removing some of the games and modes we know don't perform as well as others, so that we can build on the best bits and try to grow Java back up.

If Java can grow to a sustainable level again, then we can absolutely have another discussion on what games and content can be brought back. But for now we're just trying to grow Java again by concentrating our players (old and new) into our server's best bits.

It shouldn't really need saying, but put bluntly; we are a business, everyone who works here at CubeCraft needs to buy food and pay bills, so we need our products to make money. We're trying to make Java appealing to players again, instead of just stopping it, but for now we need to trim down its scope.

I know this doesn't make this decision better, but I hope it makes it easier to understand.

It's not great, but it does make sense? It has made sense since the very first post in this thread. You can both be unhappy about this, while still accepting that the server is on a decline and they are trying to save the sinking ship from entirely going under. How doesn't it make sense to you?

Things that don't make sense to me are why they have been so wasteful and dumb with trying to push emeralds for several updates (one so badly received they had to completely retract it), trying to chase the Skyblock trend instead of going for something more unqiue (and thus giving people a reason to play on Cubecraft, because no they were never going to compete with Hypixel's Skyblock), why they wouldn't share this news sooner, why they kept the store as it was until the very last moment (well, I guess these last 2 points do make sense, trying to get the last few pennies out of some players, but to it shows a big disrespect to the playerbase, I wouldn't buy a rank here no more), why they still sell 6 different ranks for just 6 gamemodes.

Sure one could argue it doesn't make sense to remove the most unique games from the server, and I'd agree to an extend, but they've got the data of which games are most played. They want those games to fill up quickly, so no one is sitting in the lobbies waiting for ages. I personally do not see a reason to join the server again for the time being, but others might if they only care about the few things they can do on Cubecraft.

Will it be enough to attract new players and keep existing players? Time will tell.

You really put the time and effort for what I call a “joke” but anyways we people can’t change what has been done, it’s cubecraft decisions and they can do what ever they want.

Perhaps a better analogy is the declining shopping mall experiencing a steady decline in foot traffic and shoppers over the past several years. The mall inevitably responds by closing off areas to reduce expenses and overhead, and moves tenants into a smaller area to consolidate.

Only this actually accelerates the mall's death spiral, as tenants see the writing on the wall, terminate their leases and move their businesses elsewhere. And after the mall failed and you dig into "why" that happened, you realize it had become run down over years of neglect, as the owners had long stopped consistently picking up the trash or doing even routine maintenance. The mall had plenty of opportunities to turn around the situation, but by the time they saw the problem, the damage was done.

The problem with invoking a desperate "addition by subtraction" strategy in this situation is that it almost always leads to zero. It's difficult to see how anyone is going to buy a rank if they're concerned that their game, or the server as a whole, is going to disappear in a few months.

The obvious question is, what's their alternative? Chopping expenses can them buy time, for now, but it has to be coupled with a coherent strategy for future growth. Some additional polished maps for 1.19 on a few remaining games, regrettably, will probably not do it. Some of the games they had like TD were absolutely brilliant and unique, and could have been improved dramatically to drive traffic, but I don't think the current staff even knows what they had there. Their best chances now are to take whatever games they have left, make them rock solid and engaging, and then try to rekindle player interest through social media and other forms of promotion. Ziax needs to get people talking about Cubecraft again, they need to get players to build YouTube videos, etc., to try to drive players to the site.

It is seen that the only thing they want to do is concentrate more on becrock.

How much extra work would it be to alternate between Solo and Teams of each of the three "big" gamemodes? Like for example; 3 days of Solo Lucky Islands, then 3 days of Team Lucky Islands (or any extent of time really, not specifically 3 days). Would that make the maintenance costs skyrocket? This was just a random thought I got and wanted to share it.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your mall analogy.
For one; our games aren't tenants. They don't move out of their own accord. So that's not a factor in what players see or what attracts people to our server.
And two; we haven't neglected Java at all. We regularly do maintenance, bugfixes, and updates to the games on there. They're not as grandiose as some people wish them to be, but we have to limit our time and attention to what we can only financially afford to for, frankly, a much smaller proportion of our player base.

Every update for a game, especially for Java, is a financial risk. These can sometimes take weeks or even months of spec'ing, dev time, and QA, plus any service costs for database / server space. And if the update doesn't hit well, that's all that time and money wasted. If it's well received then more players join, and we see player numbers (and, yes, sales) go up.
But if we don't update? The game goes stale, player numbers drop off, and the only ones left are the few players who think the game is perfect as-is, but this then costs us more money than it makes.
So ultimately they're risks we have to take.

We do our research into the games before updating, we have focus and test groups who know the games well and advise on what improvements the games need, and give feedback on our ideas, we have a whole feedback section on the forums and take onboard what is suggested there.

I'm afraid I fail to see where these plenty of opportunities were. It's something easy to say, especially with hindsight, but actually pointing out the details is where a lot of hand-wavy opinions come into the discussion, with no real facts to back them up.
We have taken plenty of opportunities and risks to get players interested in Java again over the years, listening to what the majority of players want but understanding that we won't be able to please everyone. So now we've put together a plan to revamp Java, which is potentially our biggest risk to date with the network, because the alternative is to just shut it down.

If CubeCraft was just a hobby project by a handful of us, who had money to pay for it all with no worries, then we'd be trying all sorts of crazy stuff to get the Java player numbers back up, and making stuff which was just for fun without the worry of the cost of things. But it's a business, and although I wish it didn't, it does have to be run like a business, and it has to be treated like a business.
