I saw this discussion on Twitter and thought I'd drag it over here to see what you all think. Which song do you think best defines the past decade? It should be a song that received widespread acclaim, did not fade quickly into obscurity and reflected the atmosphere of the decade as a whole. As a point of reference, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana is usually regarded as the defining song of the nineties (and I couldn't agree more).
Personally I would go with 'Royals' by Lorde, though I think anything in 'Pure Heroine' would contend just as well.
