Would people be interested in a MOBA minigame? While Cube has been having growth, if they want a nice increase they need to have some fresh flavor added. We obviously have some talented devs here, look at tower defense and even among slimes (pretty impressive tasks given the time they completed it in). Adding games that already exist on other popular servers isn't going to help a lot and may end up hurting overall. It makes sense (as much as i hate to admit) that survival games, UHC, all of those were removed with the player base being spread so thin, and I would be afraid about adding in more common games as players are more likely to play on bigger servers, hence why Cube would need a less covered game. Enter the MOBA idea.

Now, I'm not naïve enough to think that creating a MOBA from the ground up is an easy task, but I think the devs actually already have some useful experience that could carry over. Towers attacking entities is already programed into the game due to Tower Defense existing, in fact I'm sure the mob AI from that game could be modified to work in a different setting. When it comes to destroying towers and the enemies base you can even use a changed version's of the cores from the game Blockwars. I feel like the most difficult part would definitely be adding different characters/classes. (this coming from someone who has no developing experience).

I know this idea is a long shot, but I can't think of any big servers that any sort of MOBA elements (hypixel may have some minigame on there, but I have come to the conclusion that hypixel has everything in one of their lobbies), and I feel like if there was a server to do it CubeCraft would be a great candidate given the talent of the devs and the current player base size. An uncommon game on a server is likely to draw a few youtubers (if made correctly), which may draw players who stay around for other games as well. In addition, assuming the standard 5v5 format was kept that means only 10 players per game, allowing for smaller lobbies and less thinning of the player base.

What is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)?
The basic idea of a MOBA genera game is that two teams of 5 are competing on one map. The goal is to get to the enemies base and destroy their core, guardian, or some other target (depends on the game). Before you can get to the enemies base however you have to make your way past different towers in the way.

In a typical map there are 3 separate lanes, each leading to the team's core. In between the lanes is an area called the jungle, which can be thought of almost as a "No man's land". The towers and main way to win is destroy your way through enemy towers until you can reach their core, defeat the core and you win the match. All towers are typically located on the 3 lanes so they get the most foot traffic. Also located on the 3 lanes are wave of mobs that will spawn and attack the other team's tower. They tend to be on the weaker side and more used for exp, but especially in early game they can be a problem. The jungle doesn't have any towers or waves of enemies, but there are usually spots to get buff, grind exp, or good locations to flank enemies and get a jump on them.

Here is a very basic moba map

What really brings life to the MOBA genera however is how much teamwork is involved. As mentioned before each team tends to have 5 players. One for each lane, a support who will cycle between lanes helping as needed, and a jungler who will, as the name implies, usually stay in the jungle and cause chaos for the enemy team. Not only do teammates need to work together, because one weak spot can cause the entire team to fail, but in a typical MOBA there are different playable characters, each with different abilities, and on top of that items you can buy that give you different stats and passive abilities. All of these components working together make for a very interesting and constantly changing fight. I imagine if CubeCraft was to implement this as a game, rather than different playable characters, you would have classes or kits you could choose from.

I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on this, would you be interest in it, what issues could you see arising, any features you would like to see, is my idea sad and boring, I'm interested in all feedback! (ps, sorry for the boring wall of text)

Can you explain a bit what the minigame is about even you said you can't. Or just the basics. Had to watch a video of it and it seems like a bit of Colony Control or Tower Defence in 1? Or just like Money Walls back in 2015. I would say yes if this has more details on it.

Sorry, I was writing under the idea that everyone knew what a MOBA was, I probably should have explained that, woops. I used to play a minecraft MOBA on another server (it may have been mineplex, cant remember). I think the game was just straight up called Minecraft League. It was really run, but it was taken off that server after a couple of months. I'm not really sure why, it could have been because of either rampant hacking or a low player base... I really enjoyed it and would like to see something similar on cubecraft for sure, but I don't know how well it would perform considering my only experience with something similar ended with the game being removed...

Bruh, imagine having to hack for a minecraft MOBA... there just seems like there is so many better things you could do.

I feel like you'd see a lot of the same issues that exist with Tower Defense at the minute, but even more so. With teams of 5+ and the necessity for teamwork it would turn into a pretty much party only game, because playing games like that with random teammates just turns really frustrating. Obviously there will always be single players, but most of them won't play the game continually.

Parties are fine, but having a game like that really limits the players it can attract, because stone ranks (the majority of players) can only have parties of three, and only ten players on their friends list. I myself would love a game like this and it would be tons of fun, I just worry about how many players it would bring for the amount of dev time required.

That is definitely a possible issue that could come up. I know it's fine in an actual MOBA, but I think a lot of that is because even when playing with rando's as a lot of people do you can see what class/character people are playing before the match starts. The only solution similar to this I can think of is maybe some sort of pregame lobby that shows what your party members are playing?

Well in addition to the MOBA showing classes, there's also the point that pretty much everyone in a MOBA, even a random will have some idea of what they're doing. In a Minecraft version there would be a good chunk of players that just had no clue and made it more difficult for their whole team. That said the pregame lobby idea is a good one, and I'd love to see where a game like this could go :]

Definitely agree that this is the most likely issue. MOBAs require pretty constant communication, something which is less than simple with text based chat when people commonly speak different languages...

the idea sounds quite interesting for sure, and i havent seen a lot of servers with something even close to this idea.
it would take a lot of time to make without any doubt, but it would be a great strategy game. teamwork is the key to winning, and even tho communication might become an issue, it would make forming groups with other people more likely to happen.

this is a problem in all team gamemodes, maps with 4+ per team are a huge pain to play when theres a random guy who doesnt communicate.

this happens in literally every gamemode tho, its quite frustrating to see people who dont even try to understand the basics. i get that being new to a game might be confusing, but my god is it really this hard to try stuff?

when it comes to lack of communication because of language, maybe there could be a quick menu with messages like "im going to [direction]", "who's going to defend?".... this way people can still talk despite speaking a different language.

You're totally right and I agree, as I've said I'm not against the idea of the gamemode at all. I was just pointing out that with MOBAs teamwork is way more important than other games, to the point where it can be impossible to win. For most games winning without a working team can be difficult, but not at all impossible.

I feel like something along the lines of a quick chat could be beneficial in pretty much every team gamemode. Especially bigger ones like you said. Eggwars could definitely use something like that if there was a way to implement it without hindering gameplay. Not really sure how it would work because any item would have to take up a hotbar/offhand slot...

Definitely agree that teamwork is much more important in MOBAs than most other game types (especially compared to what we already have on CubeCraft).

Maybe the 9th slot could open up some sort of gui with a phrase select once you open it? Perhaps you could left with the 9th slot to open the quick chat menu and right click to open the shop?

yep, this is actually what i was thinking about :) it might be slow in the beginning, but once you know the difference messages, its quite easy to use within seconds

I suggest you explain what MOBA stands for, and what the game is like. As you said, it is a less covered game. Explaining what the game is or is like may make it easier for unfamiliar players to the name, "MOBA
to give their opinions on the game.

Sorry about that, I edited the original post to explain what a MOBA is, I hope that helps!
